Bill W. Hurst, age 71, longtime Oak Harbor resident, died at Evergreen Vista Care Facility in Kirkland on Saturday, April 13, 2002.
Mr. Hurst was born July 1, 1930, in Dumis, Texas, to Jennings Walton Hurst and Falba (Small) Hurst. Following high school graduation, he entered the US Navy, serving for 20 years. He was a resident of Whidbey Island for 45 years. He was married to Anita Ramirez. Bill was an avid sports fisherman. Also, following his retirement from the Navy, he was a commercial fisherman until he retired in 1995.
Bill is survived by three daughters, Irene Bourne, Mary Hurst and Judy McCommic and husband Greg, all of Gresham, Ore.; two sons, Jim Hurst and wife Angie of Oak Harbor and Gary Hurst and wife Edna of Kirkland; six grandchildren, Jared, Brandon and Gary Jonathan Hurst, all of Kirkland and Kyle and Shane McCommic, both of Gresham, Ore. He was preceded in death by his wife Anita on Nov. 16, 1997.
A private family funeral service was held April 15, 2002, in Burley Funeral Chapel, Cmdr. Fred Renfroe, CHC, USN (Ret.), officiating. Private interment was held at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Arrangements by Burley Funeral Chapel.
