Dorothy Smith

Dorothy V. Smith was a resident of Whidbey Island, at Lagoon Point, Greenbank, since 1972. She died Aug. 12, 2004, at Island Rehabilitation Center in Bainbridge Island. She was 94.

Dorothy was born in Oaksdale to Mabel and Schuyler Shepherd. She married William A. Smith in 1932. He preceded her in death in 1986.

Dorothy retired from Pac NW Bell after 25 years of service. She was an active member of WAIF. She loved raising dogs. Her last dog “Maggie” from WAIF, had only three legs. Maggie enriched Dorothy’s life more than words can say. Maggie went for a daily walk at Keystone Spit. Maggie’s devotion and loving spirit toward Dorothy was a sight to behold. She never left Dorothy’s side for a minute.

Dorothy is survived by her nephew James W. Shepherd of Kingston, and three grand-nieces, Sherry L. Junggren of Kingston, Michelle Burlingame of Lynnwood, and Janine Babcock of Ephrata.

Internment will be at Evergreen Washelli, Seattle. At her request there will be no services. Remembrances may be made to WAIF, P.O. Box 1108, Coupeville.
