Johnny C. Walter

Johnny Coble Walter died at his home in Oak Harbor on Sept. 15, 2009, at the age of 59. He was born July 8, 1950 to Ray and Betty Walter in Burlington.

A lifelong resident of Oak Harbor, he graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1969 and studied at Everett Community College and Central Washington University. While at Oak Harbor High he competed in athletics.

Johnny was an active member of the Oak Harbor community, serving 25 years as a volunteer firefighter and he owned a family auto parts business downtown.

He was an active outdoorsman spending his free time water skiing, camping, fishing, bird hunting and golfing.

Johnny is survived by his parents, Ray and Betty Walter of Oak Harbor; sister, Karen (Kit) Jennings of Los Angeles; Marge Walter; children Rebecca Walter of Seattle, Stacie (Jason) Quatsoe of Big Lake, Wash., John (Niki) Leddy of Fort Mill, S.C., and Janay Leddy of Seattle; nephews, R.C. and Jack Jennings; and granddaughter Emma Leddy. He will be missed by the many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Wendy Walter-Dunning.

Graveside funeral services for Johnny were held Sept. 21 at Maple Leaf Cemetery with Pastor David Lura officiating. The family suggests remembrances be made to the Oak Harbor Firefighters Association Equipment Fund in Johnny’s name.
