Ethel Arlene Palm was born Nov. 11, 1923 in Day County, Webster, S.D., to Ludvick and Helga (Anderson) Palm and grew up in the Buffalo Lake area. She entered into rest on May 16, 2007 at Silver Lake Adult Family Home where she had received such fine care for the past two years.
When World War II ended Ethel married Melvin Simon. The marriage was blessed with two daughters, Paulette and Teresa. Ethel was the consummate homemaker, taking pride in her home and raising her children. She was a very special woman with an indomitable spirit and a loving heart. She will be greatly missed by all.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Melvin Simon and Floyd McKenney, four brothers, Lloyd, Wallace, Warren and Even, as well as one sister, Alice.
Ethel is survived by two daughters, Paulette with husband Richard Rushton of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Teresa with husband Ben Slaman of Indio, Calif.; sister Amanda with her husband Matt Boyeson of Oak Harbor and sister Marlys Zimney of Lopez Island; sisters-in-law Olga Palm of Mount Vernon and Sue Moore of Anacortes; and three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services for Ethel were held May 19 at Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor, followed by interment at Fernhill Cemetery in Anacortes.
