Charles Robert ‘Bob’ Hall
Charles Robert “Bob” Hall, 68, died Oct. 9, 2002 at his Oak Harbor residence following a fight with cancer. He was born Jan. 8, 1934 in Cassard, Va., to Charles Gordon Hall and Bonnie Mae (Hensley) Hall.
As a young man, Mr. Hall traveled back and forth across the United States with his family several times. Following graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane he met Shirley Joanne Stillwell. On June 12, 1954 the two were married in Spokane.
Following a four-year tour of duty with the Air Force, Mr. Hall went to work with the FAA as an air traffic controller. He retired in 1990 as the air traffic representative at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. Following his retirement from the FAA, he and his wife, Shirley, spent 12 wonderful years square dancing, traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time with their grandchildren.
Mr. Hall attended First Reformed Church of Oak Harbor. He was a member of the Whidbey Whirlers, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the National Rifle Association, past president of the Silver Arrow Bow Club of Mount Vernon, and a past member of the Oak Harbor Rotary Club.
Mr. Hall is survived by his wife Shirley of Oak Harbor; one son, Russell Hall and wife Lori of Hillsboro, Ore.; and three grandchildren, Nicolas, Elissa, and Hannah. He is also survived by two aunts, Jane Taylor of Kingsport, Tenn., and her son, Randy Robinson and family, and Lucy Ellen Hall of Pensacola, Fla. and a special Australian “daughter” Janine (Pitt) Thompson and husband Rod of Australia. He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Kevin Hall in 1975 and Richard Allen Hall in 1978.
Memorial services will be held at First Reformed Church, Oak Harbor, on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m., with Rev. Tad Southard and Mr. Russell Hall officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Spokane.
