Cindra Lou “Cindy” Day, 44, 11-year resident of Oak Harbor, died Jan. 20, 2003 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, following a sudden illness.
Cindy was born in Palo Alto, Calif., on Jan. 6, 1959, to Jackie and Marla Kavanagh. Growing up in a Navy family, she lived in Hawaii for eight years before moving to Ridgecrest, Calif. She met Gregory Allen Day in Ridgecrest and they were married on June 16, 1979. The couple lived in various Navy duty stations before coming to Oak Harbor in 1992.
Cindy was an active member of Oak Harbor First United Methodist Church, where she was involved in youth work for more than eight years. She was full-time youth director for the last three years. She was the director of the “Touch of Faith” sign language choir at the church. Cindy was also an interpreter for the special education department of the Oak Harbor School District from 1994 to the present time. She enjoyed cross-stitching and scrap-booking.
Cindy is survived by her husband Greg at home; two sons, Keith Allen Day and wife Christine of Lawton, Okla., and Joshua Lee Day at home; one granddaughter, Caitlin Alexis Day; her parents, Jackie and Marla Kavanagh, of Keokuk, Iowa; one sister, Gail Kavanagh of Ridgecrest, Calif., and one niece, Megan Kavanagh also of Ridgecrest, Calif. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dayle and Irma Kavanagh.
Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 25, from 3-8 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will take place at First United Methodist Church Monday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m., Pastor David Lura officiating.
