Alice Bassett

Graveside funeral services for Alice LaRene Bassett will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Pastor David Lura of First United Methodist Church of Oak Harbor will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be at Burley Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, April 3, 2002, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Alice L. Bassett, age 95, died in Oak Harbor on March 27, 2002. She was born Dec. 9, 1906, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Samuel and Nelle (Harbaugh) Stevens. She was raised in Tekamah and Blair, Neb., and graduated from Blair High School in 1924.

Alice worked for a law firm for three years and then attended Nebraska Wesleyan University. She was married to L. Clark Bassett of Unadilla, Neb., on October 25, 1930. The Bassetts lived in Omaha, Neb., and Englewood, Colo., and in 1970, settled in Oak Harbor.

Mrs. Bassett was a member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Harbor, a 55-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of 1812.

Mrs. Bassett is survived by two daughters and their spouses; Phyllis and Gerald Dennis of Garden Grove, Calif., and Marcia N. and Lawrence Keen of Oak Harbor. She is survived by nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clark, one son, A. L. Bassett, her parents, four sisters and onebrothers.
