Everett S. Rupp, 90, died at Whidbey General Hospital, Coupeville on April 24, 2006. He was born Nov. 29, 1915 in Holbrook, Neb., to Henry and Gladys (Autler) Rupp. Everett grew up during the Great Depression and at age 14, left home and headed west. As he traveled across the country, he worked on farms and in the orchards.
Everett settled in the Okanogan Valley, where he worked selling tractors and implements. After a time, he began a longtime career managing orchards in the Othello area of Eastern Washington. He was injured at work and was unable to continue in the orchards and in 1971, moved to Coupeville to be near his son. Everett enjoyed fishing and garage sales.
He was married to Geneva I. “Jean” Lester in 1982. His wife Jean and one daughter preceded Everett in death in 2005.
One daughter, Julie Hodgen and her husband John of Arlington and one son Rex Rupp and his wife Jana of Montana, survives Everett Rupp. He is also survived by two brothers and their spouses: Max and Bib Rupp and Clason and Connie Rupp and sisters Claire and Beth, as well as his step-children, Kelly Lester and wife Holly and Richard and Melody Lester and Phillip and Lynn Lester.
Cremation was held with private family urn burial at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
