Charles “Charlie” Lee Monroe, Jr. passed away on March 1, 2006, and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

Charlie was born Dec. 31, 1943 to Charles Lee and Jane Lampert Monroe, in Oak Park, Ill. He grew up in Wheaton, Ill., and graduated from North Central College in Naperville, Ill. Upon graduation he started his career at the First National Bank of Chicago, starting in a banking role and moving into the bank’s facilities construction division. In 1973, he went to Anchorage, Alaska, to build banks for the Bank of Alaska. In 1979, he switched career paths when he moved to Whidbey Island and became a building inspector. He later moved back to Wheaton, Ill., to be closer to his aging mother and father, and continued as a building inspector for the city of Wheaton. Following the passing of his mother and father, he moved to Montana where he was a Montana state building inspector for a short period, before taking the responsibility of administrator/inspector, living in Raynsford, Sheridan, Mont. Charlie left his career to spend his final days fighting cancer on Whidbey Island.

Charlie is survived by his only brother, David and wife, Nancy; his two nephews, Daniel and Jacob, all of Prescott, Ariz.; his five children, Jane Monroe of Arcata, Calif., Christine Monroe and grandson, Noah, of Petaluma, Calif., Betsy Monroe and granddaughter, Alexis of Santa Rosa, Calif., Angela Monroe of Missoula, Mont., and Charles Monroe, III of USMC.

Funeral service for Charlie will be held at Coupeville Community Bible Church, 502 NE Otis St., Coupeville, on Saturday, March 11, at 11 a.m.   Interment will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville.
