Coupeville puts in solid performance at SW Invitational | Volleyball

The Coupeville High School volleyball team won six of 10 sets and missed the Gold Bracket by one point at the South Whidbey Invitational Saturday, Sept. 10.

The Coupeville High School volleyball team won six of 10 sets and missed the Gold Bracket by one point at the South Whidbey Invitational Saturday, Sept. 10.

Teams in the Gold Bracket competed for the tournament title.

“The invitational went well,” coach Cory Whitmore said. “We improved in a couple areas, working on being consistent in all parts of the game.

“We faced tough competition and various challenges —— we fell short on a couple of them but then came out on top of others.

“Either way, that experience in those situations will pay off come league competition and a run in the playoffs.”

The Wolves were missing one of their varsity setters, Ashley Menges, and Scout Smith moved up from the junior varsity and played well.

“Scout did an excellent job of raising to the speed and physicality of varsity play,” Whitmore said. “She played with confidence and ease, which is something special. I was happy with the way the team responded with her.”

Now the Wolves (1-0) head into Olympic League action, hosting Chimacum at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13.
