Ruth A. Christensen, 88, long-time resident of Oak Harbor, died at an adult care facility in Oak Harbor on July 1, 2002.
Mrs. Christensen was born in Coleharbor, N.D., on Nov. 7, 1913, to Arthur Schumacher and Bertha (Fox) Schumacher. She attended school in Coleharbor. On April 29, 1935, she married Johannes E. Christensen in Underwood, N.D. Following their marriage, they moved to Oak Harbor in 1936, where the couple became charter members of Oak Harbor Lutheran Church. Ruth was employed in the laundry department of the Navy Exchange. She enjoyed gardening and raising her family.
Ruth is survived by her three children, Arliss Christensen and wife Eleanor, and Roger Christensen and wife Sally, all of Oak Harbor, and Gayle Glass of Seattle; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two step-great-grandchildren; also, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johannes E. Christensen in 1996, one son, Curtis, as well as by four brothers and two sisters.
A graveside service will be Wednesday, July 3 at 3:30 p.m., at Maple Leaf Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 4:30 p.m. at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church, Pastor Laurie Bleakley officiating.
