Elsie R. (Hall) Compton

Elsie Ruth (Hall) Compton, born August 5, 1924, passed away early April 3, 2006 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Elsie is a former resident of Oak Harbor and the mother of Sue Karahalios, Oak Harbor City Councilwoman.

Elsie was born and raised in Boston, Mass., but upon graduation from high school moved to Newport, R.I., to go to further schooling and work. It was there she met the late Raymond F. Compton, Capt, USN. Elsie thrived being a military spouse and became pretty adept at moving on quick notice. Their duty stations were located all up and down the East Coast, Illinois, five sites in Florida alone, Europe, Oak Harbor, SAC Headquarters and retiring out of one of the two sites in the New Orleans area. Elsie loved the sense of adventure and travel. In recent years she had left the New Orleans area to live in assisted care in the Corpus Christi area.

Elsie is survived by her seven children and their families: Sue Karahalios of Oak Harbor; Dr. Carol Deline and husband Don of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kevin (Casey) Compton and daughter-in-law Roni of Kennesaw, Ga., Ray Compton of Irving, Texas, Robert and David Compton and daughter-in-law Laura of New Orleans, and Cynthia Siddiq of Slidell, L.A.; as well as 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Elsie also has one sister, Ruth Harper living in Jacksonville, Fla.

Services will be held Friday at NAS Pensacola, Fla., where Elsie will be laid to rest next to husband.
