Marjorie Sweeton Colby passed peacefully on the morning of July 3, 2014, in her home in the company of devoted family and friends. Marjorie was beloved by all who knew her and led a meaningful, purpose-driven life spanning eight decades that touched the hearts of so many persons.
Marjorie was born on Jan. 13, 1934, in Scotts Bluff, Neb., and graduated from Scotts Bluff High School in 1952. She subsequently joined the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman during the Korean War.
While assigned at the Balboa Naval Hospital, in San Diego, Marjorie met and married Robert Sweeton Sr., also a Navy Hospital Corpsman, who passed unexpectedly at the age of 50.
Marjorie remarried years later in 1999 to James H. Colby and relocated from Santa Maria, Calif., to Mountain Home, Ark. While in Arkansas, Marjorie and Jim were integral members of the First United Methodist Church and participated extensively in community charities and civic events. In July 2013, Marjorie and Jim relocated to Oak Harbor, Wash., where they maintained a home near her family.
Marjorie is registered as a Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR) and was proud of her Naval service in addition to that of her son Robert and grandson Brenton Sweeton, currently serving with the Navy SeaBees.
Marjorie will be interned with military honors at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash., following a memorial service. Marjorie is survived by her husband, James H. Colby; sons, Robert and Chris Sweeton; brother, Larry Howard; and mother, Viola Howard.
