Richard Wayne Johnson Sr., 77, passed away March 4, 2013 in Mount Vernon. He was born to Joseph and Gladys Johnson Oct. 5, 1935 in Tacoma.
Wayne’s first career was in the U.S. Navy where he reached the rank of AMHC Chief Petty Officer.
He achieved the award and medals of: Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Commendation Medal, six Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Services Medals, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Wayne served two tours on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War.
After retiring from the US Navy after 22 1/2 years, he worked for Western Washington University as a sheet metal worker.
He was also the original owner of Mustang Corral in Burlington.
Wayne enjoyed antique cars and collecting guns.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Wayne was well liked and loved by many people in the community.
He was a happy, loving, strong and giving man. Preceding Wayne in death were his parents and sister, Patricia Nadine Myer.
Surviving him is his loving wife of 57 years, Wanda Mae Johnson, of Burlington; children, Richard Wayne (Kimberley) Johnson Jr. of Nashua, N.H., Rhonda Gail Johnson of Oak Harbor, Joseph Charles (Catherine) Johnson of Valencia, Calif.; siblings, Kenneth (Karen) Johnson, of Tacoma, Marjorie (Roger) Reese, of Tacoma, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A service will be held 1:15 p.m. Monday, March 11 at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 S.E. 240th St., Kent, WA 98042.
