Stan Jensen, 81, died March 4, 2006, at Kindred Hospital in Seattle. Though he battled Multiple Sclerosis for nearly half his life, Stan never lost his youthful spirit and love of laughter. He was beloved as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.
Stan was born Oct. 17, 1924 in Oak Harbor to Laurits and Margrette Jensen. He was raised in Oak Harbor where he graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946 and was stationed aboard the battleship USS Texas during the campaign to liberate the Philippine Islands during WWII.Â
Stan returned on furlough to the west coast in the fall of 1945. He was met by his sweetheart, Louise Koetje in Los Angeles, where they were married on Oct. 21 of that year.
After his discharge from the Marine Corps, Stan went to work for the Lumber Supply and Warehouse Company in Seattle, where he lived and worked for more than 30 years. Throughout his life Stan loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed water skiing, and as a young man built his own speedboat.
Stan and Lou loved to travel and enjoyed many warm winters in their second home on the shores of Maui, near their daughter Sharon and son-in-law Tim. Their home on the mainland was in Seattle until they ultimately returned to live in Oak Harbor.
Stan is survived by the love of his life, Lou, at the family home in Oak Harbor; by his daughter Sharon Irvin with husband Timothy in Redmond; one sister, Dorothy Cunningham of Arcadia, Calif.; three brothers, Kenneth of Oak Harbor, Elmer with wife AnnaBell of Mount Vernon and Ray of Burlington. He also leaves five grandchildren: Jason Howard, Kirsten Deveny, Emily Thompson, T.J. Irvin and Julie Irvin, along with three great-grandsons, Jackson Howard, Davis Howard and Kellen Deveny, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Stan will be held at Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor on Saturday, March 11, at 11:30 a.m. Remembrances may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
