Frederick Bass

Frederick Charles Bass, Sr., 51, a 13-year resident of Oak Harbor, died at Whidbey General Hospital on Dec. 3, 2005.

Mr. Bass was born in Seattle on April 1, 1954, to Charley E. Bass and Aline R. (McClain) Bass. He was raised in Seattle, and was a 1973 graduate of Rainier Beach High School. Fred married Cheryl Earl on Feb. 3, 1972. The couple lived in Seattle and had two children, Jason and Christina. Fred was employed during that time at Lockheed Shipyards and Pacific Northwest Bell. He later met Audrey Meredith. Together they had six additional children: Cherise, Freddy, Lisa, Brandon, Ashley and Chylah. They moved to Oak Harbor in 1992. Fred was employed doing various construction jobs, and then was employed by New Leaf. He enjoyed music — playing the piano, organ and listening to Gospel music. He also loved football and kids.

Fred is survived by his eight children and their families: Jason C. Bass and wife Thea L. Bass and their children, Cierra and Xavier; Christina C. Bass and her son Richard JJ Reichelt; Cherise A. Zimmerman; Frederick Charles “Freddy” Bass, Jr. and girlfriend Pamela Coon and grandson Frederick C. Bass III; Lisa M. Bass; Brandon L. Bass; Ashley A. Bass; Chylah B. Bass; sister Rebecca A. Byers and husband Michael; sister Lydia Barto and husband Michael; and brother Leonard Bass.

Visitation was held Dec. 12 at Burley Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will take place at Lighthouse Christian Center, Pastor Roosevelt Rumble officiating. Private inurnment will take place at Maple Leaf Cemetery at a later date. In memory of Fred and in honor of his children, memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Oak Harbor, P.O.
