Blaine tripped up the visiting Coupeville tennis team 4-1 Friday, March 21.

“We had some strong showings, but it wasn’t enough,” Coupeville coach Ken Stange said. “Blaine is a good team, though. Hopefully, the stiffer competition will help our girls when we travel to South Whidbey on Monday (3:30 p.m. March 24).”

The Wolves picked up their lone point in second doubles when McKenzie Bailey and Ivy Luvera, up 2-0, were rewarded the win when Caitlyn and Caylie Sharp retired because of a hand injury.

Allie Hanigan fell in first singles 6-3, 6-1; and Jacki Ginnings lost in second singles 6-1.

Samantha Martin and Sydney Aparicio lost 7-5, 6-3 in first doubles; while Ana Luvera and Sydney Autio dropped third doubles 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Valen Trujillo and Bree Daigneault won a JV doubles match 8-4.

“Allie had a tough go at No. 1 singles,” Stange said. “She played consistent tennis, but her opponent was just a bit more consistent.

“Samantha and Sydney showed flashes of great tennis, but the Blaine duo was very sharp.

“Ana partnered with Sydney Autio, who made her season debut. They played spirited tennis, but were unable to take the decisive set.”

Coupeville’s (2-1) next home match is at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, against Lakewood (0-0).
