Sandra Sue “Sandy” Jones, 61, died suddenly at her home in Oak Harbor Aug. 30, 2004. She was born May 26, 1943, in West Liberty, Iowa, to Russell Howard and Edith (Spinden) Curtis.
Sandy moved to Long Beach, Calif., as a young child and then on to Compton, where she graduated from high school. She attended college for a time and also worked as a bookkeeper. She met John “Jay” Jones while working in Compton and they dated for a time. Jay left for military service for two years and following his discharge, they resumed their romance. Sandra married Jay Jones in Bellflower, Calif., Nov. 16, 1968.
Sandy and Jay settled in Wilmington, Calif., for a time and then moved to Buena Park. Jay eventually sold his business and the Jones family moved to Bishop, Calif., where they lived for 19 years. Jay retired for the second time and they decided to move to Whidbey Island to a more temperate weather and they loved Oak Harbor. Sandy and Jay made Oak Harbor their home in December of 1993. She was a member of the Christian Science Society of Oak Harbor.
Sandy took great pride in being a wonderful homemaker. She loved animals and became a very active volunteer at WAIF.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 35 years, Jay at the family home, Oak Harbor; by one son John Jones and wife Michelle and their daughter, Elena Jones, all of Clinton; and by one brother, Ron Curtis of Manhattan Beach, Calif. Her parents preceded her in death.
Sandra requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow at a later date. Memorials may be made to WAIF, P.O. Box 1108, Coupeville, WA. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
