Marjorie Ann Dilley (nee Sheve) died peacefully at her home in Oak Harbor, Wash., on Aug. 30, 2011. She was born in Atwood, Kansas on Dec. 18, 1929. When she was six years old the family moved to the Willamette Valley, eventually settling in McMinnville, Oregon in 1937. Marjorie attended St. James Catholic School and earned a scholarship to Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing in Eugene, Oregon.
Marjorie thrived academically, graduating in 1950, before returning to McMinnville to begin her long nursing career. In 1953, she married Navy man Paul Olin Dilley, beginning a new chapter in her life of worldwide travel adventures and culinary experiences. Marge continued her nursing career while raising three daughters and moving often. For a number of years, she worked for Dr. Robert Goetz in Oak Harbor before transferring to Labor and Delivery at Naval Hospital Whidbey Island. Babies were both her love and specialty during her 46-year nursing career.
In 1996 she retired, becoming a snowbird in Arizona and continuing her worldwide travels. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua in Arizona and St. Augustine in Oak Harbor. Marjorie always appreciated and was thankful for all that she experienced in life.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Angelynn and Joe Burgin of Oak Harbor, Tracey Pederson of Oak Harbor and Nancy and Robert Hammel of Dufur, Oregon and by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her husband Paul and one great-grandson Travis Kleinhoff preceded her in death.
