Preston Lawrence Johnson, age 100, passed away on Thursday, June 25, in Oak Harbor.
He was born in San Jose, Calif., on Jan. 3, 1915, to William and Filomena (Rogers) Johnson.
He grew up in San Jose. He also lived in Los Angeles and El Cajon, Calif., and eventually retired in Crescent City, Calif.
He later moved with his wife to Oak Harbor to be near his daughter, Jacolyn.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, and served in the flame-throwing infantry in Japan.
He was married for 63 years to Shirley Ziegler, who passed away on Feb. 10, 2009.
He was employed as a commercial painter for more than 50 years.
Johnson is survived by his son, Russell Johnson, and wife, Su; son, David Johnson, and wife, Lori; daughter, Jacolyn Stadler, and husband, Morris; daughter, Jo Swinford; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous other relatives.
In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by all of his siblings. He was the last surviving member of his generation in his family.
