Eugene “Gene” David Sheley, 66, of Coupeville, Wash., died Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Island Hospital in Anacortes. He was born Jan. 8, 1946, in Sacramento, Calif., the son of Harland and Thelma (Green) Sheley.
Gene and his late wife, Twilla Jean, loved this area and lived here for over 20 years, enjoying the many friendships they made. Gene drove a mail truck for many years before his retirement in 2010 – he was the happiest when he was truck driving, which was his home away from home. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Twilla. He is survived by his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joy and Carl McKay of Marysville, Calif., and JoAnn and Dieter Meller of Maryland; brother, Clyde Sheley of Sacramento; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes and the San Juan Islands. To share memories of Gene, please sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com.
