Gordon Cuthbertson

Gordon “Dewey” Cuthbertson, 75, passed away Monday, September 26, 2005.

Dewey was born near Erie, North Dakota. He attended grade schools in North Dakota, Montana, Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota. He moved to Washington State in 1942, and graduated high school in Oak Harbor, where he was very active in football and track.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served 20 years as an “Admiral’s Writer” aboard light cruisers, heavy cruisers, destroyer squadrons and also did some shore duty in Honolulu, San Diego, Danong, Vietnam and Washington D.C. before retiring from the Navy in 1968.

He worked for civil service as a corrections officer in Washington, D.C. for five years. He then worked for 15 years in telecommunications in Washington, D.C. and Dahlgren, VA and retired from civil service in 1991.

Mr. Cuthbertson moved to Palm Bay, Florida, in 1994. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Florida Retired Chief Petty Officers, Loyal Order of the Moose, AMVETS, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Fraternal order of Orioles, and the Benevolent order of Elks.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lorraine Cuthbertson; two stepchildren, Dennis L. Leapley and Diane L. Smith; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Eagles, VFW, American Legion or the Moose Lodge.
