Melvin “Ray” Callister, 79, died May 18, 2002, at Careage of Whidbey. He was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Salt Lake City to Melvin and Roberta Mae Callister. Mr. Callister was married to Maxine Baird Dec. 21, 1950, in Salt Lake City.
Ray joined the Union Pipefitters at the age of 17 working where he was needed from Salt Lake City to Alaska, retiring in 1986. He and his wife Maxine have lived in Oak Harbor for the last 30 years. He was a member of the Whidby Island Lodge No.15 F&AM.
He is survived by his wife Maxine of Oak Harbor; five children, Deborah Low of Salt Lake City, Genie Mae Boyer of Oak Harbor, John R. Callister of Oak Harbor, Susan P. Callister of Seattle and Peggy Rae Callister of Oak Harbor; one brother, Mazel Keith Callister of St. George, Utah; and grandchildren, Patrick L. Boyer of Utah, Nichole D. Arnold of California, Chad James Boyer of Centralia and Shawn M. Boyer of Oak Harbor. He was preceded in death by brother Carl R. Callister.
At the family’s request there will be no services. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Cremation was by Burley Funeral Chapel.
