CWO-5 Jonathon Henry Sylvester, USMC (Ret.), 55, of Oak Harbor, died at his home Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004.
Mr. Sylvester was born in Farmington, Maine, Aug. 26, 1949, to Adelbert Sylvester and Thelma (Sibyll) Sylvester. He was raised in Farmington, where he graduated from high school. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably for 32 years, and retiring with the distinguished rank of CWO-5. He moved to Oak Harbor three years ago. Jonathon was an ardent fly fisherman, and skillfully tied his own flies. He also enjoyed stamp collecting and collecting glass floats.
Jonathon is survived by his spouse Misako Sylvester; his children, Cpl. John E. Sylvester, USMC, and fiancee Kathryn of San Diego, Calif., James A. Sylvester and fiancee Amy of Oak Harbor and Jerri Sylvester, also of Oak Harbor; his mother, Thelma Sylvester, of Albien, Maine; five sisters, Sandra, Debra, Christine, Dana, and Rebecca, all of Albien, Maine. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends, including Edward Hurley, Yoneko Hurley, Lynda Coffman, Eisei Uezato, Tetsuya Uezato and Stevo Pearson.
Amemorial graveside service will be Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery, Anacortes. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.
