Lucille Ardell Sailing, age 82, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012 at her residence in Wofford Heights, California. She was born February 21, 1930, to John Joseph Hagerty and Bertha Marie Lamberty Hagerty, she was the 9th of 10 children. She spent her early childhood in Minnesota, moving with her family to Renton, Wash., in 1942, where she attended local schools. She was married to John P. Sailing, Jr., who preceded her in death in 1994. A Navy family, they raised 5 children and lived in Salem, Oreg; Renton, Wash.; China Lake, Calif.; finally settled in Oak Harbor in 1964. She retired from the Oak Harbor School District, touching and enriching many young lives and making lifelong friendships with young and old. She leaves behind one sister, Evenell Hornsby of Wanatah, Ind.; 5 children, Kathryn Hart of Wofford Heights, Calif.; Jerome Sailing of Carson City, Nev.; Debra Kullmann of Quantico, Va.; Lori Peery of Manteca, Calif.; and Jeffrey Sailing of Granite Falls, Wash. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She belonged to local organizations and was a member of St. Augustine’s Parish. After being sidetracked with Parkinson’s Disease, she moved to California to be closer to family members. She will be remembered for her sewing and crocheting talents, her sense of humor and her dedication to her family. Memorial services will be held at Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor, Wash., on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 11am.
