At an Oak Harbor School Board meeting May 29, students from the Career and Technical Education program at Oak Harbor High School were recognized for their hard work.

“It really has been a year of champions for us,” said Sandee Oehring, CTE director.

Oehring named a number of honors that this year’s CTE students achieved: the Culinary Team earned fifth place in the national competition; Culinary Management team took second in state; NJROTC earned the Distinguished Unit award, Robotics earned the “Gracious Professionalism” award at the state competition; DECA earned back-to-back national champions; photography and videography classes submitted entries to competitions and earned awards; metal fabrication students finished building their section of the Admiralty Head Lighthouse lantern; health careers prepared 32 students to take the certified nursing assistant exams; automotive students completed repairs on 31 vehicles; student interns covered 348 sporting events, plus more CTE accomplishments.

The CTE program allows students to earn college credit. This year, 429 students earned 1,093 college credits, Oehring said. Of the graduating class, 64 percent earned concentrations, meaning they took two classes above the exploratory class in the program.

At graduation, 150 CTE finishers will wear silver cords, meaning they took 360 hours in a CTE program.
