Age, cancer won’t slow Campbell

Island County Progressive Democratic Socialists use ageism and fictional talking points against their opponents. With full fanfare, 2012 arrived. However, before this New Year began, members of Island County’s Progressive Democratic Socialist Party were hard at work creating “facts” from fiction and fantasy. When fiction and fantasy are not enough then outright lies, distortion, and discrimination are the weapons of choice.

During this campaign season, these Progressive Democratic Socialists will tell you that Jim Campbell is not fit to serve as Island County Commissioner, District 2. Their spin uses age and health issues as logical reasons to dismiss Jim Campbell.

However, anyone with critical thinking skills will find that Jim Campbell’s age of 76, and recovery from prostate cancer are not, and should not, disqualify any candidate from serving as our elected representative.

Critical thinkers note that if those two items were disqualifying criteria then the following congressmen would not be in Washington, D.C. today:  Daniel Inouye (D) Hawaii, 87, Frank Lautenberg (D) New Jersey, 87, Daniel Akaka (D) Hawaii, 87, Dianne Feinstein (D) California, 78, Carl Levin (D) Michigan, 77, Herbert Kohl (D) Wisconsin age, 76. And both Chris Dodd (D) Connecticut, and  U.S. Rep John Barrow (D) Georgia are examples of many who were diagnosed with prostate cancer while in office.

Meanwhile, Island County Progressive Democratic Socialists will continue to use ageism and fictional talking points against their opponents.

Jim Campbell is an exceptional candidate, and is more than qualified to be our Island County commissioner in 2012.

This year we need critical thinkers more than ever.
