Candidate’s sign display disputed

While driving past the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce’s marquee sign I was astonished to see Jill Johnson touting her recent “Best in Whidbey” award on the marquee. This, in my opinion, demonstrates an absolute ignorance or, worse yet, disregard for public opinion for professional behavior on the part of a civic official. This marquee, presumably paid for with tax dollars, I thought was intended to help advertise chamber activities supposedly designed to aid and assist Oak Harbor businesses grow and expand. Instead, Johnson has turned it into a “Hey, Mom, Look at me” child bragging on their latest “book report” from school.

If this is the way she’s going to conduct herself in the commissioner’s office, Island County doesn’t have much to look forward to in the way of adult deportment in and for county government. Johnson should take a lesson from the incumbent commissioners, Homola and Price Johnson, in at least “appearing” to behave like an adult.
