Coupeville athletes involved in youth summer baseball and softball tournaments began district play this week.
The North Whidbey/Central Whidbey Major League (11/12) softball team started a best-of-three series Monday against Sedro-Woolley at Oak Harbor’s Volunteer Fields to determine the District 11 champion. Sedro-Woolley won the opener 9-5. The teams meet again at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday (if necessary) at Volunteer Fields.
The Oak Harbor/Coupeville Babe Ruth (13/14) baseball team takes part in a round-robin tournament with Sedro-Woolley and Friday Harbor at Burlington’s Rotary Fields to determine which two advance to the state tournament. Oak Harbor/Coupeville meets Sedro-Woolley at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, and plays Friday Harbor at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 30.
The Central Whidbey 9/10 softball team plays Sedro-Woolley at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Oak Harbor’s Volunteer Fields in the first game of a best-of-three series for the district title.
The four-team, double-elimination Major League (11/12) baseball tournament begins Saturday, July 9, at Sedro-Woolley’s Tesarik Field.
North Whidbey faces Anacortes at 11 a.m. and a combined South Whidbey/Central Whidbey team takes on Sedro-Woolley at 2:30 p.m.
Although Central Whidbey will not field a team, it will host the district 10/11 baseball tournament at Rhododendron Park. North Whidbey faces Sedro-Woolley at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, in the opener. Anacortes will also be taking part in the double-elimination tournament.
