Get the ball rolling on putting together your Bowl For Kids’ Sake team. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County is looking for teams to participate in the 14th annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake in May.
“We are looking for bowlers between Deception Pass Bridge to the Clinton ferry to help us raise money for much needed youth mentoring across the island,” Peggy Dyer, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County, said in a release.
For the second year, BBBS is returning to Ebey Bowl. The Coupeville event will kick off the fun on May 12.
On May 19, bowlers will gather at Oak Harbor’s Oak Bowl for the 14th time.
“What’s so exciting about Bowl For Kids’ Sake is people from all walks of life come together to support mentoring for kids. We have our Bigs and Littles bowl alongside business owners, law enforcement, our elected officials, or guys from the Navy,” Dyer said.
“The program in Coupeville has expanded into the elementary school and we would love to have new community supporters step up and take on a team captain role,” Dyer said.
Now is the time to form teams and begin fundraising.
This is how it works: A team captain puts together a team of five bowlers; each is encouraged to raise $100 or more for the organization. The team then bowls on either May 12 or May 19. On the day of Bowl for Kids’ Sake, teams bowl and enjoy free pizza, beverages and play to win raffle and door prizes, all while helping BBBS match kids with caring adults.
Dyer, who has been heading up a team of bowlers herself year after year, said that while fundraising may sound like an overwhelming task to some, the goal is reached easier than bowlers expect, as people always have been supportive -– especially with so many options available, including online donations.
Bowl For Kids’ Sake is one of BBBS’ largest annual fundraisers.
“Since we began this agency, we have served more than 3,500 kids on this island,” Dyer said. “This would not have been possible without the support of our community. Now, more than ever, we need the community to step up and continue this support as we are matching more children than ever before.”
Anybody can put together a team. If you’d like to be a team captain or need help assembling a team, email bbbs@whidbey.net or call 279-0644 to get the materials.
