I would like to comment on the incompetence of Skagit Valley College (SVC) and the U.S. Postal Service in Oak Harbor.
In an era when funds for publicly funded college education is quickly diminishing, SVC chooses to waste money on mailing out their semester schedules. If this isn’t bad enough, I found out that SVC does not maintain a list of the mailings (they deliver it to “Postal Customer”). This means that SVC will refer any questions to the U.S. Postal Service. Great job, SVC. Now we know that, not only do you not use public tax money efficiently, but you also fill our mailboxes with junk mail that most of us don’t want.
When I contacted the U.S. Postal Service to correct the problem that SVC created and refused to fix, I found out from an employee (named Brian) that they are “required” to deliver it to my house. I am not allowed to stop mail that is not addressed to me and the Postal Service contributes to the junk mail problem.
I have contacted the Washington Consumer Protection Service regarding the problem with SVC and the postal inspector has been made aware of the intransigence of the Oak Harbor Postal Service.
I write this letter so that the general public is aware of the problem and can also contact these two “public service” organizations. If enough of us take an interest, we might be able to end part of our problem with junk mail.
