The article in Wednesday’s Whidbey News-Times about the bones that were “inadvertently” found during the renovation of Pioneer Way was misleading.

Those bones were not inadvertently found. The city was told they were there yet proceeded to go about as if there was nothing there and then feigned shock after they were dug up.

This has put an undo burden on the city, and now the homeowners and businesses in the city which we will have to pay.

If it were up to me, the people paying the bill would be the same ones who ignored the advice of the state and failed to hire the needed people to help ensure that this would not happen.

We now have the privilege of paying for that ignorance by paying higher rates and by delaying needed repairs to infrastructure.

I certainly hope that powers that be learned a lesson, but I guess we will find that out if, and when, work on the new treatment plant gets underway.
