The Oak Harbor High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps drill and rifle teams collected nine first places in the opening match of the season at Snohomish High School Saturday, Dec. 3.

Eight schools from the region took part in the event.

Wildcat Battalion earned first in four of the six team events: unarmed drill, armed drill, precision rifle and physical strength.

In fact, Oak Harbor went 1-2 in physical strength with its No. 2 team collecting second place.

The sporter rifle team took second and the No. 1 and No. 2 color guard units each placed third.

The Wildcats were also dominant in the individual competitions.

Alexander Hartley, Jose Cabigting and Dylan Sanchez swept the top three spots in team strength ironman.

Chante Powell, Autumn Coker and Taylor Kesler were first, third and fourth in the ironwoman competition.

Powell was also second in unarmed commander.

Oak Harbor took five of the top six spots in precision shooting. Elena Flake took first, and Austin McBride, Julia Flake, Mia Gehrmann and Michael White were third through sixth.

In the sporter rifle division, Steven Richards was second out of 66; Isaac Gomez was eighth and Lauren Crossley 10th.

Jonathan Francisco was first in armed commander, and the pair of Kelvin Canonizado and Jhaylan Munger were first in dual unarmed exhibition drill.

In dual armed exhibition drill, Francisco and Dylan Angell finished second.

Wildcat Battalion doesn’t compete again until Jan. 28 at Everett High School.
