School bond: Young people are worth it

It’s time to quit debating the Oak Harbor High School remodel in the paper and go to the school board meetings or committee meetings to explain your concerns or disagreements. You may discover, as I did, the school board is on track and making the right decisions. They are our representatives and are doing what we asked them to do.

The Oak Harbor School Board members were elected by the majority of us, the taxpayers. We elected them to take or acquire the best information available to support the education and educational facilities of our children, the future of our country. The school board and the Remodel Committee have set their course to solve the problem of funding this the best they can and ask us all to support them in this important task. There will always be the ones that do not agree and voice their disagreement publicly, but in most cases they don’t have all the facts and/or never took the time to go voice their disagreement at a school board meeting or learn what the school board has learned.

Our four sons have all gone to Oak Harbor High School and three of the four graduated from Oak Harbor. Three of our 13 grandchildren have graduated from Oak Harbor. With no prospects of any more Bulls going to school here, Diana and I could easily forget our obligation, rationalizing the school system in Oak Harbor is no longer our concern. We believe the support we give to improving the education and educational atmosphere for our children will be the very best investment we can make in this country. Join Diana and I and vote for the levy in May to get us a high school we can be proud of. Our young men and women are worth the money and effort.
