“The deli that serves the biggest, meatiest sandwiches on Whidbey Island will be moving, expanding and getting a new name this fall.Judy Bartlett, who owns the Pot Belly Deli with her husband Keith, said the Midway Boulevard deli and meat market has gotten so popular over the last seven years in business in Oak Harbor that they’ve simply outgrown the current building.Bartlett said Pot Belly will be moving to the old Taco Time building on Highway 20 this September. With the move comes changes. Unfortunately for Pot Belly’s loyal meat customers, Bartlett said they’re no longer going to have a meat department. People come to us for the specialty meat items, she said. And it simply doesn’t pay. But Bartlett said she’s adding steak to the restaurant’s menu, along with Philly steak sandwiches, ribs, hamburgers, meaty sandwiches, soups and a full deli menu. The new building will seat a lot more people – about 70 – and will have a pick-up window. Customers can call in their orders and pick up the food at the window.Bartlett said her customers are people from all walks of life who enjoy fresh food and sandwiches with so much meat you have to unhinge your jaw to eat it. Pot Belly regulars will be happy to know that the food will stay the same at the new location. Her crew will still start at 6 every morning to make the dishes from scratch. To go with the changes, the deli will also get a slightly new name: Pot Belly Deli Steak and Ribs.”
