“The music of Aaron Copland – including selections from his Old American Songs, such as Shall We Gather at the River, and Simple Gifts – will be sung by Oak Harbor High School choirs in a fall concert Tuesday, Nov. 7. The concert will feature the Chamber Singers, the Treble Choir and the 99-voice Campus Choir. Soloists will include sophomore soprano Camille Meehan and freshman tenor Chris Reedy. Both students received the director’s award as the outstanding choir student at North Whidbey Middle School. Senior Sarah Boon, who represented the high school as a member of the Washington All-State Honor Choir last year, will also be a featured soloist.The tribute to Copland celebrates the 100th anniversary of his birth.Among the solo and choral selections will be a lullaby, a traditional ballad, a minstrel song, a children’s song and a campaign son from the 1884 Cleveland-Blaine presidential campaign, in recognition of election day.The concert will be held in Parker Hall and the public is welcome. The school has issued a special invitation to members of Oak Harbor’s retirement community, and former Oak Harbor High School music students. Admission: free. “
