“Joe Donnellon had two first places and three other Coupeville athletes won their events Saturday at the Northwest Bi-District track and field meet at LaConner.Donnellon was first in the Class A Division in the 1,600 with a time of 4:39.3 and first in the 3,200 with a time of 10:18.2. Teammate Corey O’Donnell was second in both events.Matt Frost won the 800 with a time of 2:04.2. Rich Wilson took the high jump at 6 feet, 3 inches. Teammate Dustin Kuschnereit was second with a career-best 6-0.Wilson also took second in the javelin with a throw of 149-4.Ian Mitchell was second in the 400 and ran on the 1,600 relay, which took second. Donnellon, Frost, and Tony Ruggiero were other members of the relay.As a team, the Coupeville boys finished third with 90 points. Concrete was first with 100, and Friday Harbor second with 94.The boys had a real strong third in the meet, Coupeville coach Gary Shelly said, If we had one more relay, or one more body in the field events, we could have bumped up to second or even been in the running for first.In the girls meet, Brianne King won the 1,600 with a time of 6:04.2. She was also second in the 3,200.Jess Roundy was second in the 100 and 300 hurdles, and Yashmeen Knox was second in the 100. Knox was second in the high jump and fifth in the javelin.The 400 relay of King, Roundy, Knox, and Janae Socha took second. Socha was fourth in the long jump.The top six placers in the field events, and top four in running events all qualified for the Tri-District meet this Saturday at Snohomish High. The top two finishers in each event at Tri-District will qualify for the Class A state meet.I’m glad that everybody we dook over to Bi-District is going on to Tri-District, Shelly said. Now the challenge is to get some of our people to state. I think we have some definite maybes. The most I’ve ever taken to state has been five kids, I would love to take six this year.”
