“Spitting at deputy may earn jail timeA 32-year-old Langley man broke into his girlfriend’s Wintergreen Drive home and then became extremely disorderly – even threatening to kill a deputy’s family – after being arrested, according to the Island County Deputy Sheriff’s Department.The suspect, Vincent Stewart, was charged with third-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief in Island County Superior Court Oct. 6. The charge carries a standard sentence of up to three months in jail.According to a report written by Deputy Rob Davison, he responded to a report of a disorderly man. The resident, who was in a relationship with Stewart, said that he had been drinking, verbally assaulted her and later came back and kicked the door in.Davis found Stewart walking on Campbell Road. Stewart’s hands and shirt were covered with blood from a cut thumb he said he got from punching out a window.According to Davis, he took Stewart – who was obviously very intoxicated – into custody, handcuffed him and put him in the back of his patrol car. Stewart immediately became very violent, and started spitting and kicking the window partition. After driving back to the woman’s residence, Davis wrote that Stewart started bashing his face and head on the screen and screamed he was going to kill Davis’ family and blow up his car.To prevent Stewart from injuring himself, Davis wrote that he decided to put a shoulder belt on Stewart, but Stewart spit on him and tried to bite him. But Davis persisted and secured him with a shoulder belt, a transport hood on his head and leg restraints.Davis took Stewart to Whidbey General Hospital after an ambulance crew declined to examine him. At the hospital, Davis wrote that Stewart threatened to kill everyone who was present and had to be restrained by officers.At the county jail, Stewart continued to be aggressive and uncontrollable.
