Three league meets in the books and the Coupeville boys track and field team has a lot to feel good about.
The Wolves earned their third win in as many tries on Friday afternoon, racking up 135 team points on their home track. Mount Vernon Christian (90), La Conner (67), Grace Academy (22) and Cedar Park Christian (7) rounded out the field.
“A bunch of kids had PRs throughout the program,†CHS coach Randy King said.
Perhaps the most significant of those came from the coach’s son, Kyle King. The sophomore shaved over seven seconds off his previous personal best in the 1,600, running a 4:29. He set his previous best of 4:36.30 at last year’s 1A state meet when he placed sixth overall.
“Every time he’s ran at home, since seventh grade, he’s set a PR,†coach King said.
The Wolves also received individual victories from sophomore Brian Miller in the shot put (38 feet, 10 inches), Keaton Farris in the 200 (24.26) and Jon Chittim in the 400 (51.40).
The 1,600 relay team of Chris Hutchinson, Micah Einterz, King and Chittim also took first at 3:39.48.
Coach King wasn’t just pleased with the winners, but the depth up and down the lineup. CHS had seven second place finishes, nine thirds and seven fourths to balance its scoring.
In his first ever attempt at the high jump, sophomore Brian Miller finished in second with a jump of 5-8.
With far fewer athletes than the boys, the girls also put forth a strong performance, earning 78 team points. La Conner won the meet with 142 points, followed by Mount Vernon Christian with 99. Grace Academy (7) and Cedar Park (2) rounded out the field.
The CHS girls were led by junior Corinne Gaddis, who took first in the 100 (13.54) and the long jump (14-9). Sophomore Erin Hickey won the 1,600 (6:47.77) and junior Carmen Houk took the 400 (1:07.61).
Coupeville has a meet this Friday, April 7 at Lopez Island against a number of teams from the Northwest A/B and Northwest B divisions.
