The Island County Historical Society Museum in Coupeville is featuring an exhibit of antique quilts and quilt tops through Labor Day.

Most of the quilts featured in the “Every Stitch is Love” exhibit are more than 100 years old and have a known, local origin. For instance, a Friendship (signature) quilt once owned by the LeSourd family and donated to the museum by Roger Sherman, Mary LeSourd’s grandson, has the signatures of several local residents.

Also featured are several unfinished quilt tops from the 1920s and 1930s that were made by a church guild as a fundraising effort but were never finished. Because they were carefully stored, the fabric is in perfect condition and has retained its vibrant color.

The Island County Museum is located at 908 NW Alexander St., and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Call 360-678-3310 or go to islandhistory.org.
