There are more questions than answers as to why and how a dead seagull was found tied to the top of a piling at the Coupeville Wharf.
Coupeville Marshal Rick Norrie had to use a step ladder Monday to get to the carcass for removal.
He said he’s not sure why someone would do that but suspects it might be children at play.
While Norrie required a ladder to reach the bird, at high tide someone could easily reach the top of the piling without assistance, he said.
The bird appears to have been dead for quite awhile.
Norrie said employees of businesses in the wharf reported seeing Eagles feeding off the dead seagull.
A distressed citizen reported the bird Monday afternoon after taking a stroll on the pier.
Another caller reported a similar situation on Nov. 14, reporting a dead seagull was tied to the floating dock ramp.
Norrie said it very well might be the same bird.
Because it is unknown if the bird died of natural causes or not, Norrie said he isn’t sure what a charge would be, if any.
But he said he’s keeping his eyes open and has taken note of this incident.
