Just about the time when you think you have heard or seen everything, something happens to disprove it. Brooks surely has a good thing going for him in Oak Harbor. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hasn’t already put Oak Harbor on his calendar to come back in a couple of years and get another 50 grand. Apparently, a contract is not a contract for the city council or Brooks, in that, he was not to exceed $48,000 and yet another $4,800 was given to him.
In the same article (News-Times, Feb. 12) it said, “At the same time, it seems unlikely that the City Council will adopt the finalized version of Brooks’ new tourism-boosted master plan . . .â€
City Administrator Thom Myers said, “Brooks has given the city extra effort†for his work.†Was not extra effort to be included in the original contract? Oh yes, he provided a city logo. It would appear somewhere along the line that someone would say, doesn’t some of this high priced contractural help (that isn’t used) fall within the purview of the city government incumbents?
The city council has graciously given away $52,800 for a plan to be developed that once again will not be implemented. And to think Oak Harbor cannot even provide a stadium for its students.
Shame, shame.
Now after all is supposedly said and done, there are those who are questioning an ampitheater and outdoor swimming pool? The article didn’t even mention moving the sewage plant this time, another great idea.
Residents of Oak Harbor, think of these things (and others) when you go to the polls next time. Surely you can find people to represent you in your city government that are more prudent with your money. Mr. Brooks, is this to be your last time in Oak Harbor?
