Politics rears its ugly head and two people get fired, with the cases being vastly different. Greg Banks’ excuse-making aside, it’s pretty clear that Steve Selby didn’t deserve to be fired. As a contrast, Whatcom County’s prosecutor has faced election challenges from his chief criminal deputy without feeling the need to fire him, and both have remained and continued to serve.
Prosecutor Banks’ knee-jerk reaction is a disservice to the citizens he serves and would seem to prove the claims of being difficult to work with. As for former Sheriff’s deputy Jay Wallace, I’m rarely in favor of believing everything I read in the newspaper, but as a member of the court of public opinion I certainly agree that he’s under-qualified to be a dogcatcher. No worries, November’s not that far off.
