Tidal power has problems

In reference to the March 3 article on turbines at Deception Pass. I had previously sent you several letters on this subject before. About 25 to 30 years ago when I was a member of PSE discussing alternate energy sources, I contacted the Army Corps of Engineers. Their reply: 1. It’s a navigable body of water that must be kept open at all times. 2. Not a constant source — the amount of water from the nearby rivers keep changing. 3. Turbines possibly might injure marine life like seabirds and small fish.

I just finished reading the evening news on the Internet, and read an article that there will be a study to harness the tides on the Bay of Fundy at New Brunswick (high tide 88 feet). Their plan using four turbines could generate enough electricity to heat 35 homes. Their study also showed that the turbines might be injurious to marine life.

If you are still serious about finding alternate energy sources — why not wind power?
