Last year Blaine’s Joey Paciorek ate up the Coupeville defense with his receiving yards.

This year the 6-foot-2, 210 pound junior did it running the ball from the quarterback position.

“He basically beat us by himself,” CHS coach Ron Bagby said. “He’s just an amazing athlete.”

Paciorek racked up 179 of Blaine’s 220 rushing yards and had three touchdowns, helping the Borderites to a 46-20 victory over the Wolves at Mickey Clark Field on Friday night.

Blaine took the game’s initial lead on some early first-quarter trickery and never looked back.

On a 4th and 11 from the Coupeville 35, the Borderites ran a double reverse to wide receiver Nick Jordan. Instead of running the ball, Jordan reached back and fired a perfect pass to Paciorek for the touchdown.

Coupeville inched within 8-7 by the end of the first quarter when quarterback Mike Bagby hooked up with fullback Casey Larson on a screen pass that went 60 yards for a touchdown.

That was as close as they got, however.

Blaine exploded for 19 points in the final 3:34 of the first half on two TD runs from Dane Ulrich and a 55 yard scamper from Paciorek.

Down 27-7 coming out of the locker room, Coupeville stopped Blaine’s first third-quarter drive and turned around and went 70 yards for an eventual 2-yard touchdown run from J.J. Marti.

Blaine, however, tacked on three more rushing touchdowns to put the game out of reach.

The Wolves earned their final score in the third quarter when Jordan Emerson recovered a fumble in the end zone.

Coupeville will play its next three games on the road, starting with a contest against 2A Granite Falls at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9.
