In the “Letters to the editor” Nov. 20, James L. Meek accused Paul Girouard of killing innocent women and children by his attitude and getting his facts wrong about a sign his mother-in-law had displayed on her property. He also accused Paul of dishonoring those laying their lives on the line. The sign said “Iraq: 75,000 women and children dead, hard work” in red letters. James gives Paul a back handed compliment by saying it could be about Hussein. This denies the inferred statement that we, as combatants, are responsible for 75,000 innocent lives. That statement, even James can’t stomach. But, that’s what the sign means. I mean, if you just wanted to put a sign up about killing, why not, “500,000 innocent Christians killed in China,” or “150,000 non-Moslems killed in Sudan?” If I let a sign be posted on my property, you can bet I would be sympathetic with the message.

Paul has fought the good fight with many years on a carrier, some as line supervisor. Most here can appreciate that. Paul didn’t threaten to throw anyone out; just help the sign poster pack if he wanted to leave. Please refrain from threats, James. I’ll help Paul with the packing.
