Although Luke Vrable pitched a good game and Noah Meffert hit a home run, the Central Whidbey 11/12 all-star baseball team lost 6-1 to North Whidbey in the district tournament Sunday, July 12, in Langley.

Central Whidbey now plays South Whidbey at 6 p.m. Monday in a loser-out game.

North Whidbey led Central Whidbey 2-1 after four innings as North Whidbey’s George Dailey and Vrable were locked in a pitchers’ battle. Vrable, however, had to be lifted because he reached his pitch limit, and North Whidbey rallied for four more runs.

First, two walks and a bloop hit scored one run on a close play at the plate. Then Jacob Hall crushed a three-run homer to finish the scoring.

Dailey pitched a four-hitter, striking out 13 and walking only one.

“George pitched great,” Central Whidbey coach Steve Hilborn said.
