Wolves pounce on Darrington for big win

Coupeville inched one step closer to ending a seven-year playoff drought on Friday night.

The Wolves defeated Darrington, 35-15 on the road for their third straight victory. It was the fifth win in the last six games for CHS.

“We were pretty efficient on offense,” CHS head coach Ron Bagby said of his team’s success.

The Wolves cruised to a 35-0 lead over three quarters, scoring on 5-of-6 possessions to start the game.

Senior J.J. Marti had two touchdown runs for the Wolves, highlighted by a 12-yard score.

Casey Larson also added a rushing touchdown for CHS, which had 135 yards on 23 carries.

The passing game was minimal, but efficient for the Wolves.

Senior quarterback Mike Bagby connected on 4-of-6 passes, two of which were for touchdowns.

“We didn’t throw it very many times, but they were all pretty big plays when we did,” coach Bagby said.

Senior wide receiver Bryan Sherman had a 33-yard catch for a touchdown and junior Trevor Tucker added another on a 7-yard screen pass from Mike Bagby.

The Wolves were led on defense by sophomore linebacker Alex Evans, who had 10 tackles.

CHS is now 4-1 in the Northwest A/B and 5-3 overall. They have two games remaining against teams that are both vying for the final two playoff berths in the league. The Wolves play at Cedar Park Christian (2-3, 3-4) Friday, Oct. 28 with a chance to secure a playoff bid. CPC needs the win to stay alive.

“They’re going to fired up,” coach Bagby said. “They’ve still got a shot to get into the playoffs if they beat us.”

CHS hosts La Conner (4-1, 6-2) Thursday, Nov. 3 for its final regular season game.
