Heroes to be honored March 5
Have you been witness to a recent act of heroism? Do you know someone who has saved a life? Or sacrificed significantly on behalf of others? Gone beyond the call of duty in an emergency, or prevented a disaster? Does someone you know perform heroically in our community through their significant volunteer service?
Island County American Red Cross and event sponsor Whidbey Island Bank, are looking for ordinary people who have demonstrated extraordinary courage, kindness or unselfish character. The Red Cross will honor Island County heroes at the fourth annual Heroes Breakfast Award Ceremony on March 5, 2002.
Nominate heroes for consideration by Jan. 15, 2002. Information and nomination forms are available by calling (360) 257-2096, online at www.islandredcross.org and at all Whidbey Island Bank branches. Nominees must be residents of Island County or employed in Island County (including military personnel deployed elsewhere) and have performed the act of heroism between Nov. 1, 2000 and Dec.31, 2001.
Red Cross History
Island County American Red Cross is preparing a written history of its service in Island County, including its relationship with the USO during World War II. Local residents who have history or artifacts to share may call 257-2096.
