As regular summer visitors and former residents of Oak Harbor, my husband and I were so pleasantly surprised to read that Master Chief Brewer, Retired, was running for mayor. Knowing his expeditious and efficient way of getting things done on base at NAS Whidbey Island, we feel Mr. Brewer would make an outstanding mayor for a city that is rapidly growing without a reasonable plan for the future.
Working as marketing specialist for Morale, Welfare and Recreation, and my husband working as a lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General Corps during the time we lived in Oak Harbor, we both had working relations with Mr. Brewer. His no frills, efficient and competent way of accomplishing required tasks with a productive and positive outcome always made him a pleasure to work with. No red tape. No broken promises. No nonsense. This is how we sum up Mr. Brewer.
His ideas for setting up special assessment districts to cover costs for developing Oak Harbor also make sense. Development without any plan to pay for the growth needed in infrastructure is a recipe for disaster. The fact that Mr. Brewer recognizes this will lead Oak Harbor in the right direction.
His experience in Waste Management which is a highly regulated, important, big money industry will serve him well as mayor of Oak Harbor. His leadership skills are without question.
